Kingfisher

Kingfishers are notoriously difficult to photograph, being such shy birds. So I felt very honoured when a very early morning rise one summer paid off. This juvenile kingfisher landed on a log directly across the river from me and proceeded to delight me with his presence for a good few minutes. Being a juvenile he obviously wasn't aware that I was supposed to be a threat!

Last year (2009), the kingfishers chose elsewhere along the river to nest and I didn't see any at all. Maybe next summer!
